Tobias Smyth son of Hans George(Jurgen)Smidt & Marria Stalcop or Stalcup. Tobias passed on this information to us from his Family Bible.The Smyth Bible gives us this info,That Smyth was spelled Smythe.Tobias Smyth was living in Washinton County,Virginia at the time of his death.His estate was appraised February 18,1783 and was settled March 21,1784.Tobias married Mary Mcdonald about 1748 at Augusta County,Virginia.They moved to Washington County,Virginia.There children were:
(1)Rebecca Smyth,Born June 25,1775 in Washington Co.,Va.She died Apr. 19,1864 in Lee Co.,Va.
(2)Cathrine Smyth,Born Oct. 12,1756 in New Castle,De. She died Oct. 1841
(3)John Smyth,Born 1759.He died as a young man.
(4)Elizabeth Smyth,Born Dec. 15,1757 in Augusta Co.,Va. She died Nov. 23,1846 in Lee Co.,Va.
(5)Mary Smyth,Born 1760 in Washington Co.,Va.
(6)George Smyth,Born Nov. 12,1754 in Augusta Co.,Va. He died March 6,1809 in Washington Co.,Va.
(7)Jonas Smyth,Born Apr.4 ,1750 in Augusta Co.,Va. He died July 6,1839 in Emory,Va.
(8)Edward Smyth,Born May 10,1762 in Pa.He died Dec. 6,1852 in Lee Co.,Va.

Edward Smyth (Above) was a Revolutionary War Soldier.He fought in the Battle of KING'S MOUNTAIN under Col. William Campbell. Edward Smyth married on September 6,1787 to Hannah Crabtree who was born in December of 1767 and died December 2,1862. She was the daughter of William Crabtree the III (3rd) & Hanna Whittaker of Washington Co.,Virginia.This info comes from the Smyth Family Bible's that are own by Wayne E. Smyth who lives in Richmond,Ky. Edwards Children were:
(1) George Smyth,Was born Nov. 25,1790.He died Aug. 8,1849 by a "Falling Log"
He married Polly "Orr" Burke (her second marriage).There children were:James,George,addison,and Mary Smyth.They all lived with Edward Smyth, in 1850 in Lee Co.,Va.They all moved to Estill Co.,Ky. to an area which later became part of Lee County,Ky.
(2) William Smyth,Was born June 20,1788.He died October 28,1814 in Norfolk,Va. He married Margaret Orr.
(3) Mary "Polly" Smyth,Was born Jan. 9,1793.She died May 11,1848.
She ended up raising her brother's (Crabtree) children.After Crabtree rode off with his wife in the middle of the night with a large group of Native Americans in the 1850's.
(4) James Smyth,Was born March 13,1796.He died 1824.
He married Elizabeth Tipton.They had six children three boys & three girls.There son's were:James,Jessie,Wayne E. Smyth Who owns the Smyth Family Bibles.
(5) Sarah Smyth,Was born Jan. 23,1797
(6) John Smyth,Was born Apr. 23,1795 in Washington Co.,Va.He died Aug. 6,1870 in Zions Mill,Lee Co.,Va.
He married Jane Ely.There oldest son,William Smyth married Eliza Orr.They moved to The New Virginia Settlement in what is now Kentucky where they raised a large family.They are buried in the Smyth Graveyard there.
(7) Thomas Smyth,Was born Jan. 23,1801 in Lee Co.,Va.He died June 5,1873.
(8) David Smyth,Was born March 2,1812.

(12) Tobias Smyth,Born June 18,1803 in Va.He died Dec. 3,1866 in Estill Co.,Ky.

Tobias Smyth (Above) married Matilda Garrett who was born in 1816.They married on August 18,1837.She died January 1,1869.They rode horseback to Proctor,Beattyvill,the old landing where Tobias tought School.The 1860 census records show they owned 600 acres of land.The New Virginia Settlement Church was on this land.Tobias was also a farmer,an elder in the Methodist Church where he conducted services when the minister wasn't there.

(2) Sarah Smyth,Was born Dec. 27,1839.She died 1878.

(4) Edward Smyth,Was born Feb. 5,1844.He died Sept. 23,1918
(5) Elizabeth Smyth,Was born March 25,1846.
(6) Jeptha Smyth,Was born Apr. 10,1848.
(7) Margaret Smyth,Was born Nov. 16,1850.She died 1943.
(8) Joseph Smyth,Was born Jan. 9,1853.
(9) Henry Smyth,Was born Dec. 16,1855 in Estill Co.,Ky. He died June 7,1925

It is good to hear from you Justin my line comes from the brother of your Tobias Smyth - Crabtree Smyth - he married Rhoda Puthuff - full blood indian in Lee County,Virginia and moved to Estill County,Ky - they had several children one of who was John Puthuff Smyth he married Mary Ann Fraley - dau of Benjamin Fraley and Mary Elizabeth Goosey and had several children including my great great grandmother Nancy Elizabeth ( Smyth ) Bush - third of four wifes of Fielding Bush - Fielding had Ewing Bush , who had Ralph Eldon Bush who had Ralph Bradley Bush my dad - thanks - Rhoda "Rosie Puthuff,Puthoff/ Punhuff/Puntoff/Punthuff/Foothuff/etc was full blooded american indian - the history of Lee County,Virginia gives her as Cherokee - I think she was part Scagwa as well - I know she and Crabtree Smyth had family that left Virginia and went to ky, ark, mo, and some to calf., there is an artist who is a Punhuff in calf., and I found a Elizabeth Punhuff who was indian in South Jones Island,South Carolina who died in Georgia.I also have a Henry Von Punhuff who lived at Lexington,Ky in 1844.Please keep me posted and let me know how your research is coming.Have you done any work on the Swiss records?
